The Importance of Speaking in Tongues

I. Introduction

1.      Speaking to God

"For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit." (1 Corinthians 14:2, NIV)  

When a nation's military is engaged in combat, they must transmit battle reports using coded telegrams to prevent the disclosure of classified information. The telegraph operator does not act on their own accord but follows the instructions of the frontline commanding officer (the Holy Spirit) to relay the battle situation to the supreme commander in the rear (God: Lord Jesus).

Speaking in tongues, with its utterance of sounds, is like the sounds of a telegram: da, da, da... simple sounds that may seem insignificant to ordinary listeners, yet they encompass a wide range of information, including casualty numbers, food supplies, and ammunition replenishment. All these vital intelligence are conveyed through the simple sounds of da, da, da...

Speaking in tongues, with its simple sounds, speaks of various mysteries in the spirit, completely unintelligible to the devil (the enemy). Lord Jesus (the receiver of the telegram) fully understands, able to promptly supply what is lacking and dispatch angels and heavenly hosts to support God's children in their urgent needs.

2.      Praying According to God's Will

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God." (Romans 8:26-27, NIV)  

Speaking in tongues is the prayer of the human spirit, through communion with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit takes the human spirit into the holy inner chamber (the Most Holy Place) within the heart to worship God in spirit. We do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Holy Spirit prays for us, uttering sounds that are incomprehensible to humans but are prayers according to God's will.

Sometimes, when people are in panic, fear, sorrow, grief, or pain, they are unable to focus due to emotional turmoil and do not know how to pray. At such times, you should immediately pray with your spirit! The Holy Spirit will, according to God's will, move the human spirit to utter sounds, which are the wordless groans with which the Holy Spirit intercedes for us.

II. Practical Testimonies

1.      Sister Yu's Testimony:

Sister Yu once went to a village to show gospel films. Suddenly, an evil person appeared, and she was terrified and did not know what to do. She prayed to God, "Lord, save me; Lord, save me..." and kept crying out, "Lord, save me; Lord, save me..." Then, suddenly, her tongue began to utter sounds: da, da, da..., an experience she had never had before. Her spiritual eyes were opened, and she saw angels and chariots of fire surrounding her, and she knew she was safe.

When you pray in tongues, you are making a declaration of faith, praising and glorifying God in the spiritual realm! He will perform supernatural interventions and glorious miracles. The Lord receives the signal of the spirit's prayer, knowing that His children are in trouble, and immediately dispatches mighty messengers, accompanied by chariots of fire, to come to their aid. In an instant, the battle situation is reversed, the devil's army is utterly defeated and put to shame, the evil person is unable to act, and everyone is protected by the Lord.

We are living in unprecedented times, facing severe challenges, which are the final stages before the return of Jesus Christ. Many churches, in their accommodation of the world, have failed to teach believers how to face these challenges. They only speak of trivial matters and encourage believers to give offerings. In preparation for a great revival that is about to come, bringing a harvest of souls, we must have a clear and firm faith, pray, read the Bible, and preach the gospel to reap the Lord's harvest.

Many people do not know how to speak in tongues or understand the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In fact, this is very important and should not be neglected. Many people ask me how I understand what I have seen and how I enter deeper spiritual realms. My answer is: through Speaking in tongues, through Speaking in the Spirit, not just praying with the understanding. I have consistently done this, like training with weights, strengthening spiritual power through constant practice.

I spend about 80% of my time each day pray in a tongue, whether driving, working, or resting. I practice this spiritual discipline at all times. Even if I am occasionally distracted, I will eventually naturally begin to pray in tongues or sing in the spirit.
